Venue Related Crime and Parking

This past Thursday night, representatives from the city, District 6 Police, General Managers from both concert venues, and a number of neighbors got together to begin discussions on how to address a number of issues (as outlined in previous emails) in the area surrounding Capitol Hill's concert venues (Pennsylvania to Corona and 13th to 17th). Discussion ranged from issues surrounding parking itself, a wide range of other disturbances, and how a controlled and centralized parking system could address multiple issues.

At the end of the evening, we decided to meet again (this time in a whole community forum) in 6 weeks. Between now and then, the following things will take place:

  • Commander Dilley is going to instruct District 6 officers, as they are able, to not overlook and enforce crimes that are lower on the priority list.
  • The venues are going to make security more visible, and provide greater coverage on key corners. In addition, their off-duty police officers that are hired by the venues will also engage in law enforcement.
  • The venues are going to make additional announcements to patrons, asking them to respect the community.
  • Representatives from the city are going to review current parking regulations and options related to changing the current parking setup.

The next meeting will be announced soon. In the meantime, we are asking all neighbors to track any incidents and report all of them to District 6 Police through the non-emergency line (720-913-2000). Please remember that while a call might not be immediately responded to, but calling in creates a record of the event. This record is used to measure crime stats and will make an impact on how issues are addressed over time.

Finally, if you need anything from the venues, please call the appropriate General Manager.
